Prince Edward Island Wins Bid to Host MPI’s theEVENT, Bringing Signature Canadian Business Events Gathering to Charlottetown in September 2027

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI

Prince Edward Island has been selected to host theEVENT, Meeting Professionals International (MPI)’s signature Canadian gathering for business event professionals, in September 2027.

The successful bid was led by Meet PEI in partnership with the City of Charlottetown, Tourism PEI and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), bringing one of Canada’s most influential gatherings of meeting and event professionals to the Island.

theEVENT is where the Canadian and global meeting and event community comes together to exchange ideas, challenge assumptions and create what comes next. Bringing this community to Prince Edward Island presents a significant opportunity to put the Island directly in front of the people who help decide where future meetings, conferences and business events take place.

“Hosting this conference is about more than bringing a group to Prince Edward Island. It is about opening our doors to the people who influence where future business events and conferences will be held,” said Susan Freeman, Executive Director of Meet PEI. “We want them to experience the Island the way attendees do, through genuine hospitality, incredible local food, vibrant communities, and meaningful connections. By immersing them in everything PEI has to offer, we have a powerful opportunity to spark new possibilities and show why our Island is a destination people want to return to again and again. PEI doesn’t just host conferences, it creates lifelong ambassadors. Our research reveals that over 93% of conference visitors return to the Island for leisure travel and encourage others to do the same. Once people experience PEI, even for a few days, they want to come back for more.”

“MPI is thrilled to bring theEVENT to Prince Edward Island in 2027 and give our community the opportunity to experience everything this destination has to offer,” said Colleen M. Connor, CMP, CMM, Senior Director of Events at MPI. “theEVENT is a reflection of MPI’s commitment to our Canadian community and the entire meetings and events industry in Canada. Our chapter leaders and members bring tremendous energy, ideas and expertise to this event each year, and we look forward to building on that momentum in Charlottetown.”

The September 2027 event will bring meeting professionals from across Canada and beyond to Charlottetown, providing an opportunity to showcase Prince Edward Island as a destination for business events while creating meaningful connections between Island businesses and the visiting event community.

For Meet PEI, hosting theEVENT is a strategic investment in the future of the Island’s business events industry.

Charlottetown’s walkability, distinctive venues, Island cuisine, vibrant arts and culture, and proximity to coastal and rural experiences will provide the backdrop for the gathering. Beyond the traditional conference experience, delegates will have the opportunity to discover the Island’s communities, people and experiences, giving them a firsthand look at what makes Prince Edward Island a memorable destination for business events.

The bid was led by Meet PEI, with support from the City of Charlottetown, Tourism PEI and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). Meet PEI’s efforts to attract business events to the Island are supported in part through the Charlottetown tourism levy, along with the ongoing support of Tourism PEI and ACOA. Together, these efforts help strengthen Prince Edward Island’s business events sector and create opportunities for communities and businesses across the province.

theEVENT will take place in Charlottetown in September 2027. More details about the event, programming and opportunities for businesses to participate will be announced in the coming months.
